2021 Nehemiah Action
On Tuesday, April 27 at 6:30 we will gather 2000 people for the Nehemiah Action to press officials to make Lexington a city for God. We want a proven solution to reduce gun violence. What the city is doing now is not reducing gun violence. We want a committed funding stream for affordable housing so many more people can have a safe and affordable home in Lexington. We want the Fayette County Schools to test pilot Safer Saner Schools, a restorative practices system that changes the climate in the school and gives the teachers, students, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians - everyone, tools to talk to and listen and care about each other, changing the culture in the school. This results in kids caring about their school and wanting to be there and the teachers a way to connect with and discipline the students through positive relationships.
There are 2 safe options to participate in the Nehemiah Action this year.
- First, you can attend virtually through Zoom. You will need to register and then log onto Zoom that evening and watch the Action.
- There is also going to be a drive-in car option at Mary Queen! The officials will be there and you will watch from your car, listening through your radio like we do for the car Masses. This would be a great option for families! Pop some popcorn, bring some snacks and participate in doing justice with the family! What a great experience for the kids to participate in making Lexington a better place for us and them and the next generations. That is what systemic change does, makes changes that have ripples way into the future. Be a part of that change!

Justice Ministry Network members are making invitations and follow up calls to parishioners, friends, family, coworkers and neighbors to get 425 people from our parish to participate. We need large numbers of people to show the officials that we are serious about making Lexington a City for God. We need each of you!

The 2019-2020 focus was on:
1. Mental Illness - Mental Health Court works in keeping people out of jail, taking meds, housed, working, healthy and productive. It has been a pilot program for 3 years and it is now time to dedicate funds to keep it running.2. Violent crime - We know there are proven programs that help cities reduce violent crime. We want that for Lexington.3. Drugs - Drugs effect so many aspects of our lives and communities. BUILD is looking at proven methods to reduce risk and keep people alive so they can seek recovery.We need to have a strong presence to show our officials that we want Lexington to be a place where people can live safe and full, healthy lives. It will be a wonderful night! When the COVID restrictions are lifted, a date will be set. We'll carpool from MQ from 5:45 - 6:10.
